DESCRIPTION

Coffee production in Kenya is the country's most important activity. Mostly European-owned plantations encompass vast territories, while indigenous people have limited plantation extensions. There are numerous farms around 300 thousand small owners represented by over 150 thousand cooperative companies.

Intensive coffee cultivation, even on 2 acres of land. Overall, there are 850 plantations in Kenya, of which 300 are below 21 acres and 540 above 21 acres of land.

Coffee is grown mainly in the areas of KIAMBU, THIKA, RUIRU, MITUBIRI, MAKUYU, DONYOU SABUK, RIFT VALLEY, NYERI, TRANS NZOIA, in almost all heights varying between 1500 and 2000 meters above sea level.

The main harvest takes place from October to March, while the processing and selection of the coffee takes place from June to January in the areas of Kiambu, Thika, Ruiru and from August to February in the west of the Rift Valley.

“AA” indicates a selection of grains that are larger than normal.
